Vermillion Lakes

I took this last year in Banff at Vermillion Lakes.

I had been wanting to go out and see this for some time but never went. One day my fiancee and I got out there. It was all frozen over in early December.
I dared to cross the frozen river, my heart racing with each step.
Frightened like a nervous cat unwilling to jump my fiancee soon follows. Of course instead of taking it quietly and even distributing her weight like I explained 5 seconds before she takes little steps at a fast pace until the ice splits. Giving off a squeal she finishes the last 2 metres at a jog.

So now where over in the thick dead grass, walking on uneven frozen marsh land. I'm a little nervous about the trip back over the river, but I wanted to see if I could get close to these Elk we saw.

Over 200 metres from them and the Elk rise from their resting and look me directly in the eye through my telephoto lens. Their stare is unnerving. As they started to get up and shift about I focused my attention on Mt Rundall and left the Elk to their own accord (didn't feel like getting trampled).

The way back across the river was fine (although my heart was racing). Myra took it much slower this time.
